Dohiar was founded in the 10th century by the Monk Euthymius. In the world he was a Byzantine nobleman, a contemporary and friend of St. Athanasius, on Athos, however, became his monk to monasticism and a faithful disciple. For exemplary brotherly love, meekness and modesty, for a special zeal for the angel-like ascetic life, pr. Euthymius was appointed St. Afanasy dohiar, on whom lay concern for all the food and material needs of the brotherhood.
